At Sutton Village Church, we have a very simple approach to Christianity. We believe that Jesus, the son of God, died on a cross on Good Friday and rose from the dead on Easter Sunday.
By accepting this belief, we are brought into a really close relationship with God, where we get to know more about how He wants us to live our lives. To help us focus on our future, God wipes away our earthly sins (things we have done wrong), so that we’re not weighed down with burdens from our past (and, let’s be honest, we’ve all done something wrong!). And incredibly, despite all our failings, we are also given the promise of an eternal life in Heaven.
Bearing all that in mind, here are two very important things you should know:
- You don’t have to be the perfect human to come to church.
- You don’t have to believe in God when you walk into church for the first time.
In our church, we like to give you your own space and time to meet with God. It might be something that happens straight away, or it might take much longer than that.
Through our weekly services and periods of worship, we try to create an atmosphere where first and foremost you feel comfortable and at home. You won’t be under any pressure to declare a faith, to commit to being a church member or to donate money. We believe that God just wants to meet you where you are in your life and provide opportunities to get to know Him better.
It’s also important to know that you don’t actually have to come to church to have a faith in God. We’d obviously love to see you in person at one of our services and we believe it benefits us all to ‘do church’ together, but you can develop your own understanding of what it means to be a Christian in your own home.
We try and record as many of our services as we can and you can listen back to them here. If you like what you hear, or your curious to find out more, just pop along one Sunday.
